Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
First of Firsts
"FBS is often called the Fraternity of African Presidents, Kings & Princes."
We weren't the First Historical African American, Greek-letter Fraternity to be founded...
However, we are definitely the Fraternity of Firsts...
First, to have Presidents of other countries in it's membership (Hon. Bros. Kwame Nkrumah, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe)
First, Greek-letter Fraternity to be recognized by Howard University April 15, 1914 (WYF - Omega Psi Phi wasn't until October 28, 1914)
First, to hold a joint International Convention with another Historical African American, Greek-letter Fraternity (WYF - Omega Psi Phi)
First, to be offered a chance to merge with another Historical African American, Greek-letter Fraternity (In November of 1915, the general board received a proposal from Elder W. Diggs co-founder and president of KAY - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity for the two organizations to merge. Needless to say, the proposal was denied.)
First, to establish a chapter South of Richmond, Virginia, November 15, 1915
First and Only, to establish a constitutional bond with a Sorority (ZFB - Zeta Phi Beta, January 16, 1920)
First, to establish a youth auxiliary program (SB - Sigma Beta Club)
First and Only, to own and operate a Credit Union for its members
First, to establish Chapters in the Continent of Africa
First, to establish Graduate/Alumni Membership
First, to establish an Graduate/Alumni Chapter
Lastly, many fraternities may have supported the Million Man March in Washington, DC on October 15, 1995, but only FBS can lay claim to not only supporting the Million Man March, but being the Only Historical African American, Greek-letter organization to sponsor it.
